Dave Donné is an artist which was born in 1980 in Hasselt.

The work of Dave Donné is frequently categorized as zero-art, but he likes to call it minimal art. His work is the endresult of a whole process. It first starts with thinking out an idea, making calculations,measurements and making some sketches. This foregoing process takes 90% of the work for the actual result. Once it al fits together, he starts with the execution. He does this with an eye for composition, precision, color and material. Like this,  the works look very vulnerable; One wrong line, one wrong move en the art is completely disturbed and so it will be lost.

He also makes pasty matter work from,where the polymer lies thick on the canvas and the traces of the hands of the artist are clearly visible. The thick matter arise light into the depths. Every stripe and all incisions bring light into his works. Monochrome, all work in white or black; the extremes, the infinity, the strength of both extremes.

He creates 3D works as a sculptor, but it is not sculpture. The repetition, symmetry, monochrome radiate peace and harmony, balance and illumination.

Dave Donné is an outsider in the contemporary art world and the contemporary trends world. There is some relationship with Jan Schoonhoven, Piero Manzoni and Walter Leblanc. In this context, his works fits perfectly and he often gets to hear that from the people that have purchased his works.

Het werk van Dave Donné wordt vaak ingedeeld bij de zero-kunst, maar zelf spreekt hij liever van minimal art. Zijn werk is het eindresultaat van een heel proces. Dat begint met denkwerk, berekeningen, metingen en schetsen. Dit  voorafgaand proces maakt 90 procent uit van het uiteindelijk resultaat. Eens dit alles in elkaar past, komt de uitvoering, met oog voor compositie, precisie, kleur en materiaal. Zo lijken zijn werken ook kwetsbaar; één verkeerde lijn, één verkeerde beweging, en het kunstwerk is verstoord, dus verloren.

Ook pasteuze materiewerken komen van zijn hand waarbij het polymeer dik op het doek ligt en waarbij de sporen van de handen van de kunstenaar zichtbaar zijn. Door de dikke materie ontstaan lichtinvallen in de dieptes. Elke streep en alle inkervingen brengen licht in zijn werken. Monochroom,  alle werken in wit of zwart; de extremen, de oneindigheid, de kracht van beide uitersten.

Hij creëert 3D werken zoals een beeldhouwer, maar het is geen beeldhouwkunst. De herhalingen, de symmetrie, het monochrome en de harmonie stralen rust, evenwicht en verlichting  uit.

Dave Donné is een buitenbeentje in de hedendaagse kunstwereld en in de hedendaagse trends. Er is wel enige verwantschap met Jan Schoonhoven, Piero Manzoni of Walter Leblanc. In dit kader passen zijn werken perfect, dat krijgt hij ook vaak te horen van degenen die zijn werken hebben aangeschaft.
